Archery: 64,000 years of sport

Who would have guessed that one of the oldest sports in the world is archery? Likely spears and rock throwing came first, but modern hunters don’t practice those techniques much today.

Sixty-four thousand years ago our ancestors probably thought of archery as more than just a sport. If you have every been really hungry you can guess the frame of mind that hunters were inspired by to fashion the first bow and arrow and apply it to hunting.

Since that time the bow and arrow have evolved, but are still similar enough to the original that our Paleolithic fore-fathers would be able to pick up our gear and put it to good use.
